Organ distribution of mercury vapor inhaled by acatalasemia and hypocatalasemia mice.

چکیده
Acatalasemia and hypocatalasemia mice had decreased levels of mercury in the lung and blood and increased levels in the liver following exposure in vivo to metallic mercury vapor (1.4 mg/m3 for 2 hours). The decreased uptake of mercury was roughly proportional to the decrease in catalase activity in these organs. Acatalasemia mice injected with ethyl alcohol showed a decrease in the mercury content of the lung and blood and an increase in the liver content in comparison with non-treated acatalasemia mice. The inhibitory effect of ethyl alcohol on the uptake of mercury was considered to derive from the peroxidase action of catalase with ethyl alcohol as substrate.

[A report of field survey on acatalasemia and hypocatalasemia in 1965].
The authors reported the results of field survey and family follow-up on acatalasemia and hypocatalasemia during the year of 1965. No hypocatalasemic case was seen in the tests of 2,897 individuals at two places of Japan Proper. And a hypocatalasemic boy was found out among 10,083 children of Miyako Is., Ryukyu. In 1965, ten acatalasemias of six families at various parts in the world were added...
متن کاملEstimation of the frequency of the recessive gene of acatalasemia in Japan.
The frequency of recessive gene, heterozygotes and homozygotes in Japanese acatalasemia were estimated as 0.0038, 7.5 X 10-3 and 3.0 X 10-5 by DAHLBERG’S formula, and estimated as 0.00087, 1.73 xl 0-3 and 4.23 X 10-6 by KIMURA’S formula. The frequency of recessive gene was calcu. lated from the frequency of hypocatalasemia obtained by the screening method as 0.00083, and it was almost identical...

Acatalasemia, a rare congenital abnormality characterized by an apparent lack of the enzyme catalase, was first discovered by Takahara and Miyamoto in 1947 (1, 2). The lack of catalase activity in this disease was initially noted in whole blood, but subsequent studies of the tissues of other organs such as the nasal and oral cavities, the pharynx, bone marrow and liver have revealed a similar a...

Background and Aim: Dental Amalgam is a common restorative material for posterior teeth. Because of Hg content in the composition of amalgam, during the handling of material, mercury may release as vapor in the environment. Excess amount of mercury vapor can cause serious health problems in dental personnel. The aim of this investigation was to determine mercury vapor concentration in working e...
